It's been a few weeks since I've updated here because of hurricane Katrina! On Sunday, August 28th we were ordered to evacuate. I packed up the van and truck, got the animals, the boys and we headed to IL. We left Biloxi about 11am and got to IL about 10:30pm. Normally it doesn't take that long but traffic wasn't the greatest. Brittany decided she would stay here with her boyfriend, Jason and his kids. I was worried to death until I heard from her. I think I finally heard from her on Tuesday. She told me that she was fine and for me not to come home because the town was in total devastation! She did tell me that my house survived the hurricane and we had NO FLOODING! I was so relieved to hear that! We did lose our shed, some shingles and siding. The neighbors tree, big ass pine tree, fell in our yard and just missed the house. Eric got a call from his command telling him he needed to report to Pensacola by Tuesday morning at 0730. He was told to leave the boys and I where we were. We stayed at my FIL's house. Very boring! He doesn't live there, he lives in Wyoming, and there is NOTHING there. There is a little TV and a chair. No cable and we slept on air mattresses. I am grateful that we had a place to go though. We would go up to my MIL's to eat and watch some TV every night. She doesn't have AC and the boys were sweating to death while sleeping that is why we stayed at FIL's. He has central AC, plus the boys could go fishing everyday. He has 25 acres and 2 lakes on the property. Eric called me and told me he would be back on Friday the 9th to get us, we got the OK to come back home. We got home Sunday the 11th. Took us about 9 hours to get home. Monday we had to tackle cleaning out 2 fridges! OMG they smelled terrible! No power for 2 weeks and 2 freezers full of meat! Still can't get the smell out and the AF told me to clean it as best as I could, they weren't doing anything with them at this time ... ggrrr. My insurance replaced the one that I own ...woohoo!
This place looks like a bomb went off. I haven't been down to Hwy 90 yet because they have National Guard every where and you can't get there. Stores are very scarce and it takes forever to get anywhere. We are still under a curfew, it was just lifted to 11pm yesterday. As soon as I get my pictures back I will post some. The picture above is the shed I once had. Guess I better go and cook dinner.
